  • 1869 : मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी (महात्मा गांधी) का गुजरात के पोरबंदर में जन्म।
  • 1904 : पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री का जन्म।
  • 1929 : महात्मा गांधी ने नवजीवन कार्यालय को एक सार्वजनिक न्यास बनाया।
  • 1952 : सामुदायिक विकास कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत।
  • 1955 : मद्रास के पेरम्बूर में इंटिग्रल कोच फैक्टरी ने रेल का पहला डिब्बा बनाया।

  • 1949: Soviet Union recognizes the new People’s Republic of China
  • 1950: Birth of Persis Khambatta, Indian model and actress, who died on August 18, 1998
  • 1952: Birth of Wahed Wafa, Afghan singer
  • 1957: For the first time, Japan is elected as a member of the United Nations Security Council
  • 1960: Death of Claro M. Recto, Filipino nationalist, born on February 8, 1890
  • 1973: Birth of Miako Tadano, Japanese actress
  • 1974: Death of Nurul Amin, a prominent Bengali leader of Pakistan’s Muslim League, Prime Minister and vice-president, born on July 15, 1893
  • 1975: Showa Tenno Hirohito, the 124th Japanese monarch along an imperial line dating back to 660 BC, emperor during the World War II, is welcomed by President Gerald Ford
  • 1978: Birth of Ayumi Hamasaki, Japanase actress
  • 1980: Death of General John Lionel Kotelawala, third Prime Minister of Sri Lanka (1953-1956), born on 4 April 1897
  • 1988: Pakistan’s Supreme Court orders free elections
  • 1990: A Chinese airline Boeing 737-247 is hijacked; after landing at Guangzhou, it crashes into two airliners on the ground, killing 132 people
  • 2007: President Roh Moo-hyun of South Korea walks across the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea on his way to the second Inter-Korean Summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il
  • 2008: The US senate approves a landmark deal that re-establishes bilateral nuclear co-operation with India ending a 30-year ban on US nuclear trade
  • 2009: A court in Myanmar rejects an appeal by detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi against her continued house arrest
  • 2012: Death of Nguyen Chi Thien, Vietnamese dissident poet, born on February 27, 1939
  • 2013: One of Vietnam’s best-known dissidents, Le Quoc Quan, is sentenced to 30 months in jail for tax evasion.
  • 2014: Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong arrived in Seoul yesterday afternoon, beginning a four-day state visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) at the invitation of President Park Geun-hye
  • 2014: A meeting of Nobel Peace Prize laureates, due to be held in Cape Town, is cancelled after South Africa refused the Dalai Lama a visa
